Iranian missions, promoters of Islam, Iranian culture: President |

Friday, 12 May 2006Visiting President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran on Thursday called Iranian envoys abroad "the promoters of the culture of Iran and Islam." Addressing Iranian diplomats and staff of the Iranian mission in Jakarta, President Ahmadinejad stressed that Iranian diplomats shouldered heavy responsibility as they should try to promote the Iranian and Islamic culture properly.
"Everybody should try to create a model society which favors justice and monotheism," President Ahmadinejad stressed.
The president is in Jakarta since last Wednesday morning heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation and has so far held separate meetings with Indonesian senior officials including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
He also attended a press conference and visited Muslim scholars, academics and elites of Indonesia.
President Ahmadinejad is scheduled to fly to the Indonesian island of Bali on Friday afternoon to attend the fifth summit of D-8 (Group of 8 developing Muslim countries) set to begin on Saturday.
The D-8 groups the Islamic Republic of Iran, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
Prior to leaving Jakarta for Bali, the president is expected to attend Friday prayers ceremony in Jakarta.
