In a TV program, Mustafa Arabacioglu, DP Secretary General, denied the accusations about Turkey's intervention to the internal affairs of TRNC. He said that Turkey's role in north Cyprus was an undeniable fact, however, the policies of TRNC were also taken into consideration by the Turkish government. He emphasized that there was no need to follow all the recommendations of Turkey. He also recalled that particularly during the Annan Plan, all the measures were taken by TRNC with the exception of Loizidou case.

Erdogan is the one who has the problem
Larnaca: The President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos stated on Wednesday noon that as far as he was concerned, there was no reason not to have talks with the Turk Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, but the Turk Prime Minister was the one who had the problem.
Making statements from Larnaca airport on his way to Rome, where he would sign the Treaty for the new Constitution for Europe and visit the Vatican, the Cypriot President was asked if the Greek Cypriot would seek a meeting between him and Mr. Erdogan in order to clear up their views.
"On our part, there is no reason not to talk with Mr. Erdogan, however, the problems are on his part", President Papadopoulos replied.
"Besides", added the President of the Cypriot Republic, "now that Turkey is waiting to get opening date for accession negotiations, the obstacle for Mr. Erdogan that any meeting or talks would imply recognition of the Cypriot Republic has not the same meaning as before".
Asked if the Greek Cypriot side should anticipate something to come out of the unofficial meetings in Rome, Mr. Tassos Papadopoulos mentioned, "in such meetings, the most important contacts are made in the sidelines", therefore, "definitely they would be some, as always".
Referring to UNOPS funds, President Papadopoulos said that funds spent from abroad to support political positions and without going public on them constituted "violation of Article 2(7) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the United Nations from intervening in political matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any member-state".
Commenting on the statements that the US State Department spokesman Richard Boucher has made after the link to the press of the USAID report on UNOPS funds spent in Cyprus, President Papadopoulos clarified that "funds spent for the public good is one thing and funds spent to support political stances is another".
Furthermore, Mr.Papadopoulos confirmed allegations about other sources than UNOPS having spent money in Cyprus.

Political and ideological issues as well as organizational matters of K.S. EDEK will be discussed in the Pancyprian Political and Organizational Conference of the Movement due next Sunday, the Central Committee Secretary Antonis Koutalianos stated during a press conference yesterday. Mr. Koutalianos pointed out that the goal of the Conference is "the open, democratic and constructive dialogue with the grass-root members of the Movement and with society in general, and the promotion of realistic and bold proposals to deal with the major problems concerning the people and the country today." He added that a proposal has been made for political and organizational planning concerning the overall strategy of the Movement in the next 18 months and having in view of the next parliamentary and municipal elections, where the Movement should display a dynamic presence.
The Secretary of the Central Committee of Greek party PASOK Michalis Chrysochoides, as well as the Honorary President of the Movement Vasos Lyssarides, will deliver greeting speeches at the Conference. K.S. EDEK President Yiannakis Omirou will file a proposal in agreement with the policy and ideology of the movement, while Mr. Koutalianos will file the organizational proposal.
The Conference will be attended by about 400 members of the Central Committee, of district committees, of regional and local committees, of party organizations, as well as by municipal representatives of the Movement.
Referring to the former member of the Movement Takis Hadjidemetriou, Mr. Koutalianos said that Mr. Hadjidemetriou chose to support another party in the European Parliament elections, besides the different stance he adopted on the Annan plan, adding that "due to going along with another party, he has placed himself outside K.S. EDEK and has been struck off the Movement members list."

In a written statement, Eckart Kuhlwein, the Chairman of the Cyprus-German Forum (GZF), condemned the government of the Republic of Cyprus about its attempt aiming to prevent GZF workshop on sustainable development.

Eckart Kuhlwein had to say the following: "The Government of the Republic of Cyprus has used a series of political interventions to attempt preventing a bi-communal workshop of the German-Cypriot Forum (DZF) that took place in Nicosia on the 15th and 16th of October. The official reason: The DZF had invited experts from Northern Cyprus, among others, who work in the administrations or universities. This ÔÇô as we were told in a letter of the Cypriot Embassy in Berlin ÔÇô was "inacceptable". It was said to imply, even if unintentionally, an "equalization with legal representatives of the Republic of Cyprus".
We had intended to use the workshop "Sustainability for Cyprus" as a starting signal for a sustainability process in all of Cyprus for the civil society in both parts of the island. The blockade had the effect that the meeting in Nicosia had to take place without official representatives of the Greek Cypriot side.
We regret the attitude of the government of the Republic of Cyprus. It meant that the workshop had to take place without the particularly knowledgeable environment and tourism experts from the Greek Cypriot administrations. Nonetheless the event with its nearly 70 participants was a success because representatives from NGOs and business people from the south of the island reported on developments in environment and tourism. Thus, the objective to strengthen the dialogue between Germany and Cyprus and the exchange of opinions and experiences between the communities on the island was met. Renowned German experts, among them the Ecologic Policy Spokeswoman of the Parliamentary Group of Social Democrats in the German Bundestag, Ulrike Mehl, had reported on the subjects of sustainability, water management, energy supply, environmental communication, sustainable tourism, nature protection and experiences with local ÔÇÞagenda 21 groups".
The DZF recalls the fact that by prohibiting its employees from making a public appearance, the government of the Republic of Cyprus acted like the Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktaş in the fall of 2000 who had forbidden the invited Turkish Cypriot representatives to participate in a DZF conference on water management in Nicosia. Denktaş was been criticized severely at the time. To us, the attitude of the government of Cyprus is a "dialogue blockade" we find difficult to bear. We find it extremely unusual that a member state of the European Union obstructs the work of an NGO that works on an international level in such a way."
