On Wednesday, Turkey's Chief European Union (EU) negotiator Ali Babacan said the country favored the rule of law but not to satisfy Brussels or any one else.

In an apparent answer to EU's Turkey Representative Hans Jorg Kretschmer's recent remarks, Babacan said the criticisms directed at Turkey regarding its EU reforms were groundless and premature.

Turkey has been promoting democratization and enhancing human rights for Turkish people, he underlined, not just to satisfy the 24-nation bloc.
