Thursday, 24 November 2005A six-year-old disabled girl is fighting for her life after being attacked by three dogs in her back garden in Birmingham.
Shana Wellington, who has Down's Syndrome, was attacked on Monday as she played outside in Bordesley Green.
The dogs are thought to have broken out of a cage and through a fence bordering the house on Pretoria Road. Shana was off school because she was ill.
The dogs, thought to be bull terriers, were destroyed after the attack.
A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "The six-year-old girl received severe head injuries during the attack and as a result the dogs were seized by the dog warden."
She added the owner, who is being interviewed by officers, was extremely distressed by what happened on Monday, police said.
Shana was taken to Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham.
She was transferred to an intensive care unit at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent.
