DSO hosts Nanometer workshop

Under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum; Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) is scheduled to host the first of its kind Nanometer Design Workshop in the region late this month.

To run for two continuous days, the workshop is scheduled to kick off at Dubai Le Royal Meridian on November 29th and 30th.

World's major Integrated Circuits (IC) Design and Technology Firms along with IC Technical Development and Service Providers including Synopsys, ARM, STMicroelectronics, CMP, and SVTI will present and discuss advancement and difficulties related to nanometer IC design and education. In addition, prominent figures in the field of Microelectronics Industry and Research Laboratories including Dr Richard Newton, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, University of California - Berkeley will address the workshop.

Dr Eesa Bastaki, Director of Technology and Development, DSO said,

'The key objective of the event is to create awareness and discuss IC technology related issues.'

He added, 'By attracting large number of technology experts, engineers and individuals interested in technology related issues, DSO commits itself as the region's base to hi-tech development and technical development. The workshop will play a vital role in accelerating the momentum towards creating a strong semiconductor base for the entire region,' added Dr Bastaki.

Dr Mohamed Imam, Senior Manager, Technology R& D, and Coordinator of the workshop, said, ' The event is anticipated to draw a large crowd of semiconductor and microelectronics specialists, researchers, engineers and teaching staff from a number of institutions in the region along with IEEE regional members.'

'A day prior to the workshop, a round table discussion on the region's semiconductor and microelectronic talent and technical strength will be held at DSO premises,' added Dr Imam.
The round table discussion will be attended by the semiconductor's world leading veterans and invitees from the Arab and Middle East institutions.'
