Turkey and Spain are making the final preparations for the first meeting of the Alliance of Civilizations project, to be held in Mallorca, Spain starting next Sunday.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Spanish counterpart Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero will make the three-day meeting's opening remarks as the project's co-presidents. State Minister Mehmet Aydin, the co-chair of the United Nations High-Level Group for the Alliance of Civilizations, will also attend the meeting.

The group will be evaluating future threats to peace and security with a special focus on ways to correct political, social, or religious forces which may lead to dangerous extremism, while at the same time promoting harmony between different societies and cultures.
