Wednesday, 20 July 2005By Anadolu News Agency (aa) US Muslims have fiercely reacted against the remarks made by the Republican House of Representative Member Tom Tancredo who said during a radio program that even Mecca may be bombed in retaliation against extremist Muslims.
The council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) that is the largest association on Muslim civilian freedoms in the US called on the leader of the Republican Party Ken Mehlman and Tancredo to apologize to the Muslim society. Tancredo made the remark in response to a question on the radio program, "The Pat Campbell Show" last Friday that asked "if extremists do have these nukes aimed inside the borders and they were to use something like that -- what would the US response be?" suggesting that Muslims' holy site might even be taken out in retaliation.
