Michael Phelps Invited to Istanbul Short Course Worlds |
7 December 2012Turkey Swimming Federation has invited former U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps to the FINA World Swimming Championships in Istanbul.
ISTANBUL -- The FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), or Short Course Worlds will take place in Istanbul between December 12 and 16.
Chairman of the Federation, Ahmet Mazhar Bozdogan stated that they have sent an official invitation letter to the former U.S. swimmer Phelps to attend the championship which will take place in Sinan Erdem Sports Hall in Istanbul.
He noted that they expected Phelps to reply in a few days time.
After the London Summer Olympics 2012, Phelps decided to conclude his swimming career.
Having 18 Olympic gold medals out of 22, Phelps holds the title of the "most olympics medal owner in the history of Olympic games".
Bozdogan noted that there would be a record attendance to the Short Course Worlds in Istanbul and said that 1,100 swimmers from 162 countries will compete at the event.
