Iran Says no Cyber Damage Done to its Oil Platforms |
8 October 2012New cyber attacks on Iran's oil and gas platforms in Persian Gulf did not bring any results, Mohammad Reza Golshani, head of Iranian Offshore Oil Company's IT department said, Mehr reported.
Several days ago Iran's Internet suffered a cyber attack that disrupted the internet connection across the country, according to secretary of Iran's High Council of Cyberspace Mehdi Akhaven Behabadi.
Golshani said the cyber attacks targeted against Iran's National Oil Company's network, but also those of Aramco (Saudi Arabia), and RasGas Co. Limited (Qatar) have intensified during the last several months.
Goldshani noted that because Iran has protected itself from the Internet, creating country's inner network, the security of vital databases of oil companies were not breached.
The official underscored that the attack was carried from Israel and several other countries.
In April, Iran has been hit with a cyber attack on its main oil export terminal and on the Oil Ministry itself, Iranian industry sources said.
A virus was detected inside the control systems of Kharg Island - which handles the vast majority of Iran's crude oil exports - but the terminal remained operational, a source at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said.
The Islamic Republic has tightened cyber security since its uranium enrichment centrifuges were hit in 2010 by the Stuxnet computer worm, which it believes came from Israel or the United States. |
