4 Police Die in Two Days of Special Operation in Chechnya

Four police officers have died in the first two days of a special operation in Chechnya, while eleven others have been injured.

Fighting has flared up in the republic’s Vedeno district. Rebel fighters had hided in a hard-of-access area of the republic’s mountainous country.

Four rebels have since been wiped out.

The Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov told reporters Thursday that the killed rebels formed part of the Muslim Gakaev gang of terrorists. Kadyrov added that the killed police officers would be awarded posthumously.
