Kazakh, Kyrgyz Presidents Intend to Bring Trade Turnover to $1 bln a Year |
22 August 2012Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan Almazbek Atambayev and Nursultan Nazarbayev outlined to boost trade turnover between the two republics to $ 1 billion a year, Atambayev said after talks with Nazarbayev, RIA Novosti reported.
Nursultan Nazarbayev arrived in Bishkek on Wednesday at the invitation of President Almazbek Atambayev. During the visit, a meeting of Supreme Kyrgyz-Kazakh Interstate Council at the level of Heads of State was held, which outlined promising areas for bilateral strategic alliances and partnerships. Following the talks, the presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan signed a jubilee declaration on the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations, as well as a number of other bilateral documents. This is the first state visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan for 20 years of independence of the republic, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.
"The current state visit of the President of Kazakhstan, without any exaggeration, opens a new chapter of relations between our two countries," Atambayev said.
For his part, Nazarbayev noted that Kazakhstan allocates $100 million to the joint Kyrgyz-Kazakh investment development fund and expressed confidence that the funds will contribute to the development of the fraternal country. "Kazakhstan has readily provided humanitarian support to Kyrgyzstan. And now is the time to develop and deepen the economic relations between the two countries. We are neighboring countries, historically close to each other, we are for centuries lived side by side and we have common roots. We must continue good, kind traditions established by our ancestors," the president said.
