U.S. Air Force’s Hypersonic WaveRider Fails |
16 August 2012The U.S. Air Force suffered yet another setback last Tuesday when testing its unmanned hypersonic aircraft WaveRider. The relevant information was circulated via "Twitter" by California Journal Wired.
According to the edition, during the trial flight over the Pacific Ocean, the device experiencing technical problems when "a faulty control fin prevented it from starting its exotic scramjet engine and it was lost”.
The Pentagon has so far refrained from commenting.
Work on the hypersonic aircraft X-51A WaveRider, capable of speeds of nearly 6000 kilometers per hour, has been underway for a long time. Earlier tests were not entirely successful. |
