Ambassador: Georgia Appreciates Azerbaijan’s Support in Eliminating Georgian-Russian War Aftermath |

Georgia appreciates Azerbaijan's support in eliminating aftermath of the Georgian-Russian war, Georgian Ambassador to Baku Teymuraz Sharashenidze said at a press conference on the fourth anniversary of the August 2008 war on Wednesday.
"After the war, friends helped Georgia to eliminate the consequences of war, and Azerbaijan's support is huge on this issue," Sharashenidze said.
Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory, South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.
Sharashenidze said today Georgia is ready for dialogue with Russia on all bilateral issues, and it has repeatedly stated it, and as a step of good will the Georgian side gave its consent to Russia's joining the WTO, and an agreement was reached on visa issues.
In general, the relations between the two countries remain at a low level, and even are enhancing, he added.
As Sharashenidze stressed, Georgia's policy on non-recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by the international community also successfully continues. He said Georgia will continue to adhere to policy of non-recognition of separatist regimes, and another example of this is the fact that Georgia is one of the first countries, which did not recognize the so-called "elections" in Nagorno-Karabakh, which took place in July.
