Turkmen parliament approves law on referendum |

Majlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan considered and approved a draft law "On Referendum", which was developed given experience of holding election campaigns accumulated in recent years in the context of further expansion of the democratic principles of development of the Turkmen society, the Turkmen government said on Wednesday.
The law was adopted within the 15th meeting of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the Fourth convocation.
The report says that according to unanimous opinion of MPs, adoption of this legislative act is intended to further promote ensuring electoral law of Turkmen people, enshrined in the Constitution of Turkmenistan.
The UNDP is implementing a project on cooperation in strengthening the electoral system and processes in Turkmenistan. One of the key areas of cooperation is to implement these standards in the national electoral legislation, as evidenced by the adopted laws "On presidential elections in Turkmenistan", "On Central Commission on Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan".
The last meeting discussed and approved a number of other drafts of legislative documents. They include making amendments and additions to the laws of Turkmenistan on elections of members of the Mejlis, the Criminal Code, Code of Administrative Violations, Tax Code and Customs Code. |
