30 July 2012Turkish daily newspapers covered in their Monday editions clashes between Turkish security forces and PKK terrorists in southeast Turkey, planned production of French car maker Renault's new Clio wagon model in its plants in Turkey, Turkey's granting residence permit for Tariq al Hashimi, Iraq's Sunni vice president who faces charges of terrorism in his country.
Daily HURRIYET said two Turkish troops were killed and 10 others were wounded in two separate clashes in Semdinli town of the southeastern province of Hakkari. The daily said one troop was killed and three others were wounded in the initial clash on Sunday morning which was followed by day-long exchange of fire into the night when the other soldier was killed. Daily TURKIYE said war planes and helicopter gunships hit a large group of PKK terrorists who it said penetrated from northern Iraq with heavy weapons.
"Sarko lost, Bursa won," headlined daily HURRIYET over French car maker Renault decision to manufacture its Clio Sports Tourer in its plants in Turkey's northwestern Bursa province. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy had long objected to the production of Clio's new edition in Turkey plants.
Daily MILLIYET said Turkish Interior Ministry had issued a residence permit for Tariq al-Hashimi, Iraq's fugitive Sunni vice president who faces terrorism charges in his country. The daily said the ministry granted the permit as Hashimi's 90-day visa had expired. The Iraqi vice president stays in a guarded house in Istanbul. |
