French, Armenian FMs Discuss Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Resolution |
25 July 2012Foreign ministers of Armenia and France, Eduard Nalbandyan and Laurent Fabius discussed the process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution in Paris on July 24, Mediamax reported.
Eduard Nalbandyan reiterated Armenia's readiness to continue negotiations based on the statements of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries' heads, made in L'Aquila, Muskoka, Deauville and Los Cabos, and the submitted proposals, Armenian Foreign Ministry told Mediamax.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
Nalbandyan and Fabius also discussed Iran's nuclear program and the situation in the Middle East.
He invited his French counterpart to visit Armenia. |
