Burgas Suicide Bomber Had 2 Accomplices – Report |
23 July 2012Bulgarian police are reportedly investigation the involvement of two more accomplices involved in the deadly July 18 bus bombing at the airport in the resort city of Burgas.
The terror attack, which claimed the lives of seven, is so far believed to have been carried out by a suicide bomber and two accomplices, Bulgarian Standard daily notes, citing a Russian news agency.
The publication in Standard daily cites Bulgarian police sources as saying that the two suspects were to backup and control the suicide bomber at the Sarafovo airport in Burgas.
DNA samples of the bombing suspect have been sent to US intelligence services but no match has yet been detected with any of the former Guantanamo prisoners, as previously suggested.
The information has been sent to Interpol and security services in a number of other countries but the identity of the terrorist has not been ascertained.
According to reports of Bulgarian Trud daily, police in the Black Sea city of Varna are looking for a woman related to the suicide bomber.
Varna police are said to have searched a 3-star hotel because of a guest registered with the fake Michigan driving license found with the suicide bomber.
Trud daily informs that police authorities are working on a scenario under which the suspected terrorist entered Bulgaria via the Varna airport in the last days of June and was not alone.
According to a taxi driver cited by the 24 Hours daily, a taxi driver has claimed that he was hired by the suicide bomber in the southern resort village of Ravda little before 5 p.m. on July 18.
According to journalists of Novinar daily, police are looking for a Hezbollah cell in Bulgaria's Pirin Mountain.
The special services are investigating whether the organizers of the bus bombing in Burgas got in touch with Muslim communities in the region, Novinar daily informs.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov will present the latest information concerning the investigation of the terror act to his European counterparts and to EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malstrom at an Informal Meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Ministers scheduled for July 23-24 in Nicosia. |
