Interpol Assists Bulgaria in Probe of Terror Act |
20 July 2012The international police organization Interpol is sending a team to Bulgaria to assist Bulgarian authorities in the investigation of the terrorist attack at the airport of the Black Sea city of Burgas.
A bus carrying Israeli tourists exploded on the airport's parking lot Wednesday afternoon, killing seven. Five are Israeli citizens.
The other two casualties are a Bulgarian, who was the driver of the bus, which was supposed to carry the group of Israeli tourists to the Sunny Beach resort and the suicide bomber, who brought the bomb on the bus.
Ronald Noble, the Secretary General of Interpol has condemned the cowardly attack. He says the information about the fake US ID papers of the perpetrator could be indispensable and crucial if it is found in the organization’s database.
The database includes information on 2.5 million lost or stolen authentic US passports.
Noble further notes that Bulgaria has the tools to search Interpol’s database and has successes in identifying people attempting to enter the country with stolen or lost documents, which are listed by the organization.
According to him, the first step would be to check the information about everyone who has visited Bulgaria with US documents. |
