16 July 2012Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that Turkey had problems with Syria today in order to guarantee zero problem with Syria in the future.
If Turkey had friendly relations with Bashar al-Assad today, then the post-Assad regime would not have friendly ties with Turkey, Davutoglu said at his lecture titled "Changing Turkish Foreign Policy in Changing World" at the 48th annual meeting of Ditchley Foundation near Oxford in Britain.
Davutoglu said dynamic powers in dynamic regions would establish the future, stating that there was a great cooperation between Turkey and Britain.
The foreign minister said, "Today Assad says he needs more security for unity of the country. In fact he needs more freedom to win the heart of the people. But he does not understand it."
The problems that Turkey had with Syria today stemmed from Syria not from Turkey, he said.
Assad did not fulfill its commitments that he made to Turkey, he said.
Davutoglu said that Turkey would keep working regarding Syria, stating that the international community should have solidarity with Syrian people.
Turkey would keep supporting the Syrian people, he added. |
