Irish Minister Creighton: "I Hope Ireland Achieves Same Success Levels as Turkey Did over Developing" |
12 July 2012Irish Minister of State for European Union (EU) Affairs Lucinda Creighton expressed hope that Ireland would achieve the same success levels as Turkey did over developing.
Speaking to AA regarding the economic developments of Turkey, Creighton said, "Turkish economic developments in the past decade have been unbelievable. There are important improvements taking place for Turkish citizens. I wish it will continue in the same way."
Irish minister said that she disagreed with the discourse that the Euro would become bankrupt and expressed belief that Euro would be back being stronger than before.
Creighton underlined that she always heard different stories about the collapse or bankruptcy of Euro, or Euro was being over in a couple of days or in a few months and so on, "however, none of them became materialized".
Creighton expressed, "one of the main reasons of our economic crisis in 2008 was the international developments happening outside of Ireland. For example, the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers and the high supply in the Irish building construction were the starter points of our crisis."
Irish minister added that they put IMF's measurements and advise for Ireland into work before 2010 and clarified, "public expenditure was cropped, all precautions were taken throughout the financial crisis in 2008. Since the crisis in 2008, the Irish economy grew and developed and the situation started becoming positive for Ireland. Moreover, in 2011 we recorded the highest number of foreign investments. We can say that Ireland is nearly over the crisis."
Creighton also mentioned Turkey's reforms for EU accession period and said, "we follow all the developments in Turkey. We know and see that there are giant reforms and improvements in Turkey. Process of entering the EU is the process of reforming. In the Balkans, Eastern Europe we saw the same reforming. I think that Turkey has a long way ahead to go." |
