4 July 2012Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Wednesday issues Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's statements regarding Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's remarks, inflation figures for June, Turkey's brand value and a survey on political outlook in Turkey.
"He Lies" headlined Vatan daily and quoted Davutoglu as saying: "Assad said they learned the plane belonged to Turkey after shooting it down. They knew it was Turkish jet. We have voice recordings." Davutoglu said Syria wanted to normalize relations with Turkey, stating that Turkey did not accept it. The daily quoted Davutoglu as saying that Syria's downing of Turkish jet would not go unpunished.
Almost all papers wrote about inflation figures, noting that consumer prices index dropped 0.90 percent, and producer prices index decreased 1.49 percent in June. When compared to June 2011, consumer prices index rose 8.87 percent, and producer prices index increased 6.44 percent. On 12-month basis, annual inflation was posted as 8.89 percent in consumer prices, and 10.24 percent in producer prices.
Another topic that was published in dailies was a research held by branding valuation consultancy, the Brand Finance, saying that Turkey was the 19th most valuable Nation Brand with 487 billion USD brand value. According to the Brand Finance, Turkey is in the top ten fastest growing brand between other nations. According to their "Nation Brand" research, Turkey boosted its brand value 114 billion USD comparing to last year and leaving Poland, Austria, Belgium, Greece and several other European Union (EU) countries behind.
Sabah daily wrote about a survey conducted by GENAR on Turkey's current political outlook in June, stating that 51.1 percent of participants would vote for the Justice and Development (AK) Party while 24.5 percent of them would vote for the Republican People's Party (CHP). |
