Turkey's Catalhoyuk Inscribed on World Heritage List |
2 July 2012UNESCO World Heritage Committee has decided to add Turkey's Catalhoyuk Neolitic City on the World Heritage list at their meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia on Sunday.
World Heritage Committee is formed by experts from 21 countries. According to the World Heritage Committee, Catalhoyuk met the conditions of the World Heritage Agreement and maintained its integrity as well authenticity.
In the report, they stated that the history of Catalhoyuk reaches to B.C. 7400 and Catalhoyuk stands as a unique witness of the Neolitic Period.
Turkey has eleven World Heritage Sites in the list including Catalhoyuk. The committee accepted Selimiye Mosque in Edirne to the list last year.
Experts of UNESCO stated that it is important for the development of history to have Catalhoyuk Neolitic City in the World Heritage list.
Archaeological excavations continue in Catalhoyuk. Catalhoyuk was a large Neolitic and Chalcolithic settlement in southern Anatolia, near Konya. |
