2 July 2012Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Monday issues Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's reaction against a Wall Street Journal article on a downed Turkish military jet by Syria, remarks made by an independent deputy from Diyarbakir Leyla Zana after meeting Prime Minister Erdogan and the match-fixing case in which a ruling would be made on Monday.
Dailies highlighted Prime Minister Erdogan's statements denying a Wall Street Journal article saying Syria downed a Turkish military jet in their own waters. Dailies quoted Erdogan as saying "the WSJ's article is a lie. The WSJ should publish the source of their article to prove the article was accurate". WSJ's article forced the Turkish General Staff to publish a flight plan of the downed Turkish jet.
Dailies drew attention to remarks made by an independent deputy from Diyarbakir, Leyla Zana, after she met Prime Minister Erdogan on Saturday. Dailies quoted Zana as saying "how many more generations will have to wait for death- Everyone needs peace. The Oslo talks should resume and we should enter a period of negotiations. A home confinement should be considered for Abdullah Ocalan (head of terrorist organization PKK)".
Dailies also underlined a match-fixing case in Turkey in which a ruling is expected on Monday. Among those involved in the match-fixing case is the Chairman of Fenerbahce Sports Club Aziz Yildirim. |
