Turkey to Do What is Required |
23 June 2012Turkish President Gul said regarding a Turkish jet was shot down by Syria on Friday over the southwest of southern province of Hatay that Turkey would do what was required on the incident after everything became clear
Replying to questions, Gul said that it was definite that Turkish jet was shot down bySyria, stating that it was routine for warplanes flying at high speed to cross borders for short distances. Gul said it was not a move with bad intention.
Gul said they held phone conversations withSyria. "We withdrew our representatives fromSyria due to security problems. This does not mean that there has been no contact," he said.
Some parts of the jet have been found, he said. Gul said searching for the two crew members was continuing andSyria also took part in searching efforts.
UN Following Situation Closely
On the other hand, a spokesman for the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that he hoped this serious incident could be handled with restraint by both sides through diplomatic channels, after a fighter jet of Turkish Air Forces was shot down bySyria.
Spokesman Martin Nesirky told AA correspondent that Ban was following the situation closely.
"He hopes this serious incident can be handled with restraint by both sides through diplomatic channels," said Nesirky. |
