19 June 2012Turkish daily news papers covered in their Tuesday editions Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan's remarks at G-20 Summit, Erdogan's talks in Mexico, fires in prisons in Turkey and support by the opposition parties to the new constitution.
"We're Island of Stability in Global Crisis," daily Sabah headlined and said that Prime Minister Erdogan informed participants about secrets how Turkey achieved economic growth during global economic crisis at the G-20 Summit in Los Cabos, Mexico. "We aim to be included in the 10 largest economies in the world in 2023," Erdogan said in the summit. The daily quoted Erdogan as saying that his government developed a unique model between public and private sectors.
Vatan daily wrote about PM Erdogan's talks within the scope of the G-20 Summit, stating that Erdogan had a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Erdogan and Putin discussed Syria crisis in their meeting, the daily said, adding that Erdogan would meet with U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday.
"Fires in Prison" daily Milliyet headlined and a second fire broke out at a prison in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, where 13 inmates had died in a previous fire on June 16. The daily said that the fire started in the juvenile ward, stating that the juvenile inmates burnt their beds, injuring 42 people in the fire, adding that other fires also broke out in prisons in Gaziantep, Adana, Osmaniye and Ceyhan, injuring 47 others.
"Full Support to Constitution", paper Milliyet headlined and said that the Parliamentary Reconciliation Commission members visited the opposition parties; Republican People's Party (CHP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) on Monday. The daily quoted Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek as telling opposition leaders: "We want your support and proposals." The three parties said this opportunity should not be missed, the daily said. |
