15 June 2012Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Friday's edition a meeting to be held between President Abdullah Gul and Semra Ozal, people's fleeing homes in Fethiye after tsunami rumors and remarks by former EU higher representative.
Almost all the papers published stories a meeting to be held between President Abdullah Gul and Semra Ozal, the wife of eighth President Turgut Ozal, whose suspicious death 19 years ago was the subject of a recent investigation undertaken by the presidential palace. The dailies said that Semra Ozal made a request for an appointment with President Gul after the State Audit Institution (DDK) said in a report that Ozal's death was doubtful, stating that the grave must be opened for an autopsy. Gul answered positively to the request of Ozal, but the time and place of the meeting have not yet been set, the dailies said.
Most of papers also wrote about stories regarding people's fleeing homes in Fethiye town in Mediterranean region after a rumor of a tsunami spread throughout the town. Newspapers said that aftershocks took place in Fethiye following a magnitude-6 earthquake that occurred off its coast on Sunday, stating that rumors spread in Fethiye that a tsunami was expected after the water along the shoreline receded 50 meters on Wednesday night. Many fled to higher ground with their valuables, papers said.
Turkiye daily wrote about remarks made by Javier Solana, former EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, at a meeting of the Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association, quoting Solana as saying that Turkey had put forth a great transformation in the recent period. EU needed Turkey, he said. |
