Turkish Labor Minister Meets Representatives of International Labor Unions |
12 June 2012Turkey's Labor and Social Security Minister Faruk Celik on Tuesday met with the representatives of confederations of international labor unions in Geneva, Switzerland on the sidelines of the International Labor Conference.
Pointing out that Turkey was an important actor in its region, Minister Celik said that figures pertaining to the working world in Turkey were positive.
We have made very important arrangements in Turkey in the working world recently, Celik noted.
All legal arrangements were implemented following the meeting of the Trilateral Consultation Board, Celik stressed.
We will continue to keep the dialogue mechanism functioning in the future as well, Celik said.
When a representative of the Public Services International (PSI) reminded Celik about the detainment of 15 female union representatives in Turkey on February 13, 2012, Celik said that those detained were detained as part of an operation waged against the terror organization KCK.
The 15 females union representatives were not detained for their connection to unions but terror. No one should doubt the independence of Turkish courts. Turkey has been fighting against a terror organization for the past 30 years. A state based on the rule of law has to fight against those with weapons in their hands, Celik noted.
Following the criticism made by a representative of the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) David Cockroft on a Turkish ban on strikes in the aviation sector and the firing of 305 Turkish Airlines (THY) personnel, Minister Celik emphasized that a compromise could not be reached between the THY and labor union for workers in the aviation sector, Hava-Is.
The two sides made objections to authority between the sides and made objections to mediation. There is a serious problems of lack of confidence between the labor union and the THY, Celik stressed.
The one day delay in services of the THY caused great uproar among the Turks. We do not think that a total ban on strikes for workers of the aviation sector in Turkey was right. The ban should have been assessed more carefully and in details. Services could have been classified, Celik stressed.
Answering a question on labor life in Turkey, Celik said that, thanks to efforts made in the past two years, one million Turks who were formerly not registered became registered workers. |
