Any Government Bombing Its Own People cannot Have Legitimacy, Says South African Deputy President |
8 June 2012South Africa's Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe said on Thursday that it was obvious that lessons were not learned from Afghanistan, Iraq, North Africa, Tunisia and Libya.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan following a tete-a-tete meeting in Ankara, Motlanthe said that any government bombing its own people and not ruling based on the will of the people can not have legitimacy.
Today, we exchanged views on areas in which we can cooperate, Motlanthe stated.
We especially discussed issues pertaining to energy and defense, Motlanthe said.
There is a distance of about 10 hours between our two countries but our hearts are always close to each other, Motlanthe indicated.
We discussed today bilateral relations and the hot issues on the global agenda. Our world currently spends too much time and resources on wars. Such time and resources should be spent for humanity and not wars. We struggled for freedom for over 82 years. We are saddened to see that wars continue. Lessons have not been learned from Afghanistan, Iraq, North Africa, Tunisia and Libya, Motlanthe stressed.
Our present visit to Turkey is highly crucial for us. We are happy to have refreshed our friendship by coming to Turkey, Motlanthe also said. |
