Annan's Recent Statements Imply Syria not Faithful to Its Promises, Says PM Erdogan |
8 June 2012Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday said that joint UN and Arab League envoy on Syria, Kofi Annan's recent statements implied that Syria did not remain faithful to its promises.
Speaking at a joint press conference with South Africa's Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe following a tete-a-tete meeting in Ankara, Erdogan said that statements made by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the UN General Assembly implied that the Annan process ended.
Such remarks of Ban point out to the beginning of a new process on Syria, Erdogan said.
What is crucial is to end the massacre that has turned into a genocide in Syria, Erdogan stressed.
Deputy President Motlanthe and I had a chance to discuss regional issues. We talked about the developments in Syria and fields that have an influence on Syria, Erdogan noted.
I can see that our views with South Africa converge on these issues, Erdogan stated.
Relations between Turkey and South Africa are developing positively. In 2010, we had a trade volume of 1.2 billion USD with South Africa. This figure jumped to 2.4 billion USD in 2011. Such figures actually do not represent the potential between our two countries, Erdogan said.
There are steps we can take in tourism and information technology. We had the opportunity to discuss cooperation in these fields, Erdogan indicated. |
