Obama Formally Opens Reelection Campaign |
6 June 2012President Barack Obama formally opened his reelection bid last Saturday with two rallies where he spotlighted his accomplishments during the last three and a half years as president. He said that the country can’t afford to implement Republicans’ bad policies.
The president said that Republican nominee Mitt Romney would approve all of congressional GOP agenda if given the chance. This is why America should not vote for him. He said that this is the reason why he’s running for a second term.
In the 36 minute long speech, President Barack Obama highlighted the narrative that the campaign would push this year. He wants to remind the voters of the millions of jobs lost before he took office. In the final six months of 2008, around three million lost their jobs. He maintained that his administration has been trying hard to fight back.
Mitt Romney opposed the bailout plan. He said that the structured bankruptcy could have been achieved even if the US government doesn’t foot the bill. The former Massachusetts governor added that the Obama administration has made too many concessions to unions as part of the bailout.
The president said that for the first time in nine years, Americans are no longer fighting in Iraq. He also said that Osama bin Laden has already been neutralized and the al Qaeda was no longer a threat. He promised that by 2014, the war in Afghanistan will also be over. He pointed out that his rival Romney declined to set a troop withdrawal plan for the conflict.
With regards to illegal immigration, President Obama said that it’s time to stop denying citizenship to young people because their parents are undocumented immigrants. Romney opposes the administration’s push for a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. The issue is important for the Latino community in the United States. |
