30 May 2012Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Wednesday issues new abortion law, a strike by Turkish Airlines (THY) personnel and several countries' expelling ambassadors of Assad.
Most of papers wrote about remarks by Prime Minister Recep Erdogan regarding new abortion law. Dailies said Erdogan has delivered instructions to the Cabinet to begin drafting new legislation on abortion in the wake of his recent comments against abortion. Papers quoted Erdogan as saying: "I have already told my minister. We are preparing the law on abortion, and we are going to pass it."
Almost all papers published stories on a strike by THY personnel, saying that the airlines had to cancel flights on Tuesday, after being hit by a protest of its staff against a draft law which would make it illegal for aviation workers to strike. THY's website was also hit by a cyber attack, Transport Minister Binali Yildirim said, adding 104 flights had been cancelled and he would take "necessary steps" if the issue was not resolved soon.
Papers also said that after massacre of more than 100 people in Houla, Syria faced a global protest by several countries. Dailies said that seven countries including Britain, France, the US and Germany announced that they expelled Syrian ambassadors and diplomats on Tuesday in a co-ordinated protest at the massacre of more than 100 people, including scores of children, in Houla last weekend. |
