Germany Expels Syrian Ambassador after Deadly Houla Attack |
29 May 2012German government has said it is expelling Syrian ambassador in Berlin after a violent attack by Syrian army in Houla on Friday which killed at least 108 civilians, German Press Agency said.
Radwan Loutfi was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry and he was asked to leave the country in 72 hours, DPA reported.
In February, the German government deported four staff with the Syrian Embassy for allegedly stalking Berlin-based Syrian opposition figures whereas German Embassy in Damascus was closed months earlier.
In a similar reaction to mounting government violence in Syria, France and Australia also decided to expel Syrian ambassadors in their capitals.
Friday's attack on Houla left at least 25 children dead, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban-Ki moon sent a letter to UNSC and noted that the violence in Syria escalated in the past two days. Ban said that UNSMIS was informed that 116 people had been killed and over 300 were wounded during the attacks in Houla. |
