28 May 2012Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Monday issues remarks made by Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the Uludere incident at a provincial congress of his Justice and Development (AK) Party in Istanbul, Turkish Director Rezan Yesilbas's winning an award at the 65th Cannes Film Festival, and Kasimpasa soccer club's relevation to Turkish Super League after beating Adanaspor 3-2 in a play-off final at the Bank Asya First League.
Commenting on remarks made by Premier Erdogan on the Uludere incident at a provincial congress of the AK Party on Sunday, almost all dailies quoted Erdogan as saying that "the investigation on Uludere has not ended. The Turkish government is doing all it can on individuals who were mistakenly bombarded. The families of those killed were visited at the highest level possible. We have begun a legal and administrative investigation into the incident. The case has not been closed yet".
34 Turkish citizens were killed by the jets of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) on December 28, 2011 in Uludere town of Turkey's south-eastern province of Sirnak as they were believed to be terrorists.
Dailies also highlighted Turkish Director Rezan Yesilbas's winning the Palme d'Or award at the 65th Cannes Film Festival with his film "Sessiz" ("Silent") in the short films category on Sunday. Dailies quoted Yesilbas as saying "I dedicate my award to all the silent and lonely women of my country".
Covering a play-off final at the Bank Asya First League, all dailies wrote about Kasimpasa soccer club's relevation to the Turkish Super League after beating Adanaspor 3-2 on Sunday in Ankara. Other Bank Asya First League teams who qualified to advance to the Super League were Elazigspor and Akhisar Spor. |
