25 May 2012Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Friday's edition President Abdullah Gul's visit to Apple company, Turkey's qualification for finals in the Eurovision Song Contest, and Istanbul's candidacy to host 2020 Olympic Games.
All newspapers wrote President Gul's visit to Apple company in Silicon Valley. Apple is the world's biggest company with its 520 billion USD of value. Gul met Apple's CEO Tim Cook to discuss FATIH Project in Turkey. Gul also told Cook that it was difficult to use Turkish characters in iPad boards. Cook, in return, said that he had not been informed about this, adding that he would solve the problem.
Another topic in the newspapers is Turkey's qualification for finals in Eurovision Song Contest. Can Bonomo was qualified for finals with his song "Love Me Back" during the semi-finals which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan last night. Lithuania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Ukraine, Sweden, Macedonia, Norway, Estonia and Malta were the other countries which were qualified for the finals.
Newspapers also wrote that Istanbul was the strongest candidate to host 2020 Olympic Games. Istanbul's gaining the candidate status together with Tokyo and Madrid drew high interest in the world. Turkish Sports Minister Suat Kilic said that Turkey deserved this candidacy, adding, "Turkey is the strongest candidate." However, Turkey is also candidate to host European Football Championship the same year which caused a problem because UEFA President Platini said that if Turkey hosted 2020 Olympic Games, it would not host EURO 2020. |
