Mikheil Saakashvili: Chicago NATO Summit is very Important for Georgia |

Chicago NATO summit is very important for Georgia and it is necessary to fix Georgia's progress towards integration in NATO, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili told journalist in New-York.
He noted that today's situation is similar to the situation in 2008 when, in March, "the alliance has not provided IDA to Georgia, showed hesitation, the U.S. presidential election was held in the same year, and it all led to what everybody knows."
The President of Georgia underlined that today certain political forces in Georgia bribed by Russia, "run to Brussels and other capitals of Europe and try to ensure that the progress of Georgia towards integration into NATO and the European institutions not to be fixed."
"Recognition of our progress on the part of NATO is very important for us, and even though we know that it is not the summit of expansion, yet the progress of Georgia should be clearly and accurately recorded," Saakashvili said.
In this regard, the Georgian president stressed the importance of recent statements of NATO Secretary General, who noted that Georgia has made "significant progress" in the way of integration into NATO.
Mikheil Saakashvili will participate in the Chicago NATO summit, which will be held on May 20-21 in Chicago. |
