"Another Type of System can Be Considered as long as It's Democratic," Deputy PM Arinc Says |
11 May 2012Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said, "Presidential system of Turkey should be discussed. We can consider another type of system as long as it's democratic."
Arinc spoke at the live 'Media Meeting' TV programme which was held by local TV stations in north-western province of Bursa on Thursday.
Arinc highlighted the current topics and answered journalists' questions.
He stressed that the presidential system, semi-presidential system or parliamentary system take place in democratic regimes.
Arinc expressed that the people wanted to have a role in the presidential elections.
As the elections system has changed in Turkey now, we can see the power of people. The first presidential elections to be participated by the Turkish people will take place in 2014, Arinc noted.
The question of 'Which system is better to govern Turkey-' was highlighted by Arinc during the programme.
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister said, -When I held the office of the speaker of the parliament, I could see that the parliament should be above of all. I can say this by relating it to my parliamentary experience. However, if there are convincing reasons which say that the presidential system is better, I am ready to accept it. I am open for suggestions. In the past decade, there have been 'people' to knock us out by entering between us.-
Arinc talked about the 'New Incentive System' for businessmen who were willing to invest and the developments in the economy. He said that the labour of EU is suffering and not receiving their wages. On the other hand, he expressed that Turkey is doing well, especially the financial industry keeps growing.
Bulent Arinc said that he reads the every single corner of all newspapers and tries to understand what writers say. He recommended to the journalists who were at the meeting that -Do not backstab and be clear about what you write down.-
Arinc also stated that what happens in the past few weeks were 'judgement operations'. He stressed that he does not know when that will be over.
Bulent Arinc indicated that both himself and the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan find the period of imprisonment way too long.
We both support that the period of imprisonment and judgement should have been shortened. There should not be long periods of judgements and hearings. They should come to conclusion as soon as possible. These people have families and children, custody and imprisonment should be humanistic and applied conscientiously,- Arinc said.
Arinc also pointed that the relations between the civilians and the military have been at its best.
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister said that as Turkey is a democratic country, relationship between the military and civilians should be kept clear and satisfying. |
