Five Killed, Dozens Wounded in Cairo Clashes |
2 May 2012Five people died and dozens were injured on early Wednesday during riots outside the Defense Ministry in the center of Cairo, Egypt’s Health Ministry reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the clashes began at dawn. A group of unidentified men attacked the participants in a long-standing protest outside the Egyptian Ministry of Defense. The attackers threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the demonstrators.
According to doctors, two of the five victims died from gunshot wounds to the head.
Cairo’s Abbasiyah area, where the building of the Ministry of Defense is located, for several days remains the epicenter of clashes between supporters of Islamist politician Hazem Salah Abu Ismael, who was excluded from the presidential race, and unknown young men.
The main requirement of the protesters is the speedy transfer of power from military to civilian rule. |
