17 April 2012Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan received Muhammad Mukhtar, the son of Libyan hero Omar Mukhtar, on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of Justice and Development (AK) Party in Ankara, and it was closed to press.
Omar Mukhtar, born in Libya in 1862, organized and, for nearly twenty years, led native resistance to Italian colonization of Libya. The Italians captured and hanged him in 1931.
Recently, in his interview with Anadolu Agency, Muhammad Mukhtar said that Turkey supported Libyan people during the revolution, and Libyan people would never forget Turkey's help.
