Kazakhstan to Increase Oil Transit through Azerbaijan |
12 April 2012Kazakhstan will increase oil transit through Azerbaijan as a result of the growth of its production, Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov told journalists on Thursday.
"With the increase in oil production, the transit of Kazakh oil through Azerbaijan will be increased and transportation through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline resumed," Primbetov said.
According to BP, oil production in Kazakhstan in 2010, amounted to 1.75 million barrels per day. The largest oil fields in Kazakhstan are Kashagan and Karachaganak.
Kashagan is located in the north of the Caspian Sea. Its geological reserves are estimated according to Kazakh geologists,, at 4.8 billion tons of oil. As head of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna Umirzak Shukeyev said earlier, Kazakhstan intends to get the first oil from the Kashagan field by late 2012.
Karachaganak field is one of the largest operating oil and gas fields in the world. It has 1.2 billion tons of oil and condensate and more than 1.35 trillion cubic meters of gas. About 45 per cent of gas and 18 per cent of oil produced in Kazakhstan are extracted from this field. |
