Three Georgian Servicemen Killed in Afghanistan

Three Georgian servicemen were killed in Afghanistan, Georgian Defense Ministry said.

Corporals Valiko Beraya, Ruslan Meladze and Paata Kacharava were killed during fulfilling the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.

They were killed while performing a mission as a result of car blast, during Taliban militants' attack.

All three killed soldiers served in Helmand Province in the 31st infantry battalion of the 3rd Brigade of the Georgian Armed Forces.

A few days ago Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili visited the base and met with the Georgian servicemen.

Georgia has 900 soldiers in Afghanistan at present, but in the autumn of 2012 their number will increase up to 1,600 people.

A total of 15 Georgian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan.
