Implementation of 11 Industrial Projects to Begin in 2012

President of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev told about the launch of the largest industrial projects in his Address to the Nation “Socio-economic modernization – main direction of development of Kazakhstan”.

“These projects are designed to change the form of our economy, the image of our country. We will turn Kazakhstan into a giant construction site and create tens of thousands new jobs,” the President said in the Address.

389 projects totaling KZT 1.8 trillion tenge were put into operation over two years of implementation of the Industrialization Program. 90 thousand new jobs were created.

The implementation pace of 220 projects will be intensified in 2012. 130 projects are planned to be commissioned by the yearend. The emphasis in upgrade of the Industrialization Map is placed on the increase of the Kazakh content, energy efficiency and production of the end-products.

The construction of the largest industrial projects declared by the President will begin this year. These are such projects as reconstruction of international transit corridor “West Europe – West China”. 700 km of the new road is expected to be commissioned in 2012. Over 25 thousand people will be involved in the construction.

Besides, the construction of the Balkhash Thermal Power Station with the capacity of 1320 is to be commenced. It will allow to resolve the energy deficit issues and relive of energy dependence the southern regions of the country.

Kazakhstan will produce 500 thousand tons of polypropylene and 800 thousand tons of polyethylene due to the construction of the integrated gas chemical complex in Atyrau region.

The construction of a plant for deep processing of oil will be started at the Atyrau Oil Refinery in the second quarter of this year as well. The cost of the project is USD 1.7 bln. As a result, the gasoline production will be increased almost three times to 1.7 mln tons and diesel fuel – to 1.4 mln tons.

Besides, such large-scale projects as the establishment of “Burabai” tourism center, construction of the mineral fertilizers plant in Zhambyl region, ski mountain resorts in Almaty region, construction of Karachaganak gas processing plant in West Kazakhstan region, construction of “Kartaly – Tobol – Kokshetau – Astana” gas pipeline aimed at gasification of the central Kazakhstan including Astana city will be implemented as well.

The construction of two new railway lines – 200 km long “Zhezkazgan – Beineu” and “Arkalyk – Shubarkul” is planned to be started as well. This project will give impetus to the regional development.

Implementation of the State program of Forced Industrial-Innovative Development remains the main priority in the economic modernization of Kazakhstan. Implementation of the Industrialization Map, in particular, launch of new industrial projects and achievement of the design capacity is under the supervision of the Government.
