ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish dailies covered on their Friday editions the luncheon which gathered President Abdullah Gul with heads of executive, legislative and judicial organs at Cankaya Presidential Palace, the criminal charges prepared by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against former chief of general staff Gen. Ilker Basbug, and the weather condition across the country.

All newspapers wrote the luncheon which was hosted by President Gul for the heads of executive, legislative and judicial bodies at presidential palace. They discussed the ways to make judicial mechanism faster and more effective. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also attended the luncheon. Judicial reform package and preparations on new constitution were also high on the agenda of the meeting. Releasing a statement, Gul's office said that participants highlighted importance of improving Turkish legal system in the light of universal norms and values, and raising democratic and human rights standards in Turkey. Among the participants, there were Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek, Prime Minister Erdogan, Constitutional Court Chairman Hasim Kilic, Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin, Supreme Court Chief Judge Nazim Kaynak, Council of State Chairman Huseyin Karakullukcu, and chief judges of several other courts.

Another topic in the newspapers is the criminal charges against retired General Basbug. Prosecutor Cihan Kansiz, who pursues the Ergenekon investigation, completed a 39-page indictment about Gen. Basbug and sent it to the 13th High Criminal Court so that the Basbug case gets attached to the case on "Action Plan Against Reactionary Forces". Prosecutor demanded life imprisonment for attempting to abolish Turkish government as well as 15-22,5 years of imprisonment for leading a terrorist organization.

Newspapers also wrote the heavy snowfall which is influencing a large part of the country. It snowed in the Aegean province of Izmir for the first time after 21 years. Flights were cancelled at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport as of 10:00 a.m. yesterday. Izmir-Manisa highway was closed. Meanwhile, Meteorology said that temperatures would increase and snowfall would slow down as a wave of warm air would come from Libya. Temperature will reach even 18 degrees in some regions.
