ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish dailies covered on their Thursday editions the heavy snowfall in Istanbul, Turkey's export figures and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's speech at his Justice & Development (AK) Party meeting.

All newspapers wrote heavy snowfall which has been continuing in Istanbul city for almost a week, while the cold wave coming from Siberia has been influencing the whole country. Snow depth has reached 47 cm in some districts of Istanbul. Roads were closed and traffic stopped. There were some interruptions in metrobus lines, while ferry services were cancelled. Meteorology warned against heavy snowfall today too. Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines (THY) cancelled 320 flights. Turkish Forestry & Water Works Minister Veysel Eroglu warned that the temperature would increase by the weekend which could cause flood as the snow would melt down.

Some newspapers wrote the export figures of Turkey. The export increased ten percent to 10.5 billion USD in January 2012 when compared to January 2011. Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) Chairman Mehmet Buyukeksi, who held a press conference in Inegol town of the northwestern province of Bursa, said that they made a good start in 2012. The highest export was made by automotive sector with 1.6 billion USD.

All newspapers wrote remarks of Erdogan at AK Party meeting in Ankara. Erdogan said that Turkey would not remain silent toward racism, xenophobia and Islamophobia which was insidiously escalating in Europe. The current scene in France is the manifestation of this stealthy danger in Europe, said Erdogan while commenting on a French law which was adopted at French Senate and penalizes the denial of Armenian allegations regarding 1915 incidents during Ottoman Empire period. Prime minister also replied Republican Poeple's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu who claimed that Erdogan divided Turkey into two as religious and profane. Erdogan said that they would not bring up an atheist generation, adding that they would raise a conservative and democrat generation who claimed values of the nation.
