Tuesday, 31 January 2012In the United States, the contest to pick the Republican Party candidate to face President Barack Obama in the fall presidential election moves to the southern state of Florida today.
Ahead of the primary vote, opinion polls show the front-runner, Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, with a large lead over his closest challenger, Newt Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives.
Correspondents say a Romney win is unlikely to end Gingrich's candidacy, however.
Two other candidates, former Senator Rick Santorum and congressman Ron Paul, are far behind in Florida and national polls. |
