Detained by police for taking part in an unauthorized opposition rally in Tbilisi got off with administrative fines. Tbilisi City Court obligated the seven arrested protesters to pay a fine of 500 lari ($ 1 = 1.66 lari).

The action, which took place in the center of Tbilisi about 40 people were participating. It was organized by youth organizations.

Protesters remembered resident of Tbilisi, an employee of "United Bank of Georgia" Sandro Girgvliani, in the murder of which they accuse the Interior Ministry and demanded to punish them under the law. Protesters wearing a rope around his neck tied in a loop, defiantly sat down on the roadway at the Rustaveli Avenue in front of Parliament.

The police warned them not to block the roadway, but some of the protesters decided to disobey the police.

The police arrested seven protesters who tried to block traffic. The leader of the "Civil Front" Jaba Jishkariani and other organizers of the rally - Zaza Svanadze, Ilia Tsurtsumia, Mikhail Mumladze, David Patsatsiya, Irakli Beraya, Beka Tsertsvadze and journalist Ilya Chachibaia were detained. All of them were charged under articles "disorderly conduct, disturbing public order" and "disobeying the police."

Sandro Girgvliani was killed after being tortured, on January 27, 2005 in the forest Okrokana. Four employees of the Department of Constitutional Security suspected in the murder have been detained and in early 2006 were sentenced to terms ranging from 7 to 8 years, but in 2009 they were released by the decree of pardon.

Girgvliani murder caused a wide resonance in Georgia. The opposition demanded the resignation of Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili and boycotted parliamentary sessions for six months, as believed that customers of killing were wife of the Minister and his deputies.
