Kazakhstan to Make Decision on Central Asia United Energy System Next Week |

Monday, 30 January 2012Kazakhstan will make decision on future work of Central Asia United Energy System next week, Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company's (KEGOC) spokesman Marat Muhamedsaliev told Trend over phone on Friday.
"We will hold the next round of bilateral negotiations with Uzbekistan on Central Asia United Energy System next week. Following the negotiation results, we will make decision if we work in the System or in split mode," Muhamedsaliev said.
The negotiations will be held in Tashkent.
The Kazakh Unified Energy System recorded non-contractual electricity flows from Uzbekistan since September, KEGOC said earlier. Fluctuations on the border with Kazakhstan up to 700 MW of power takeoff or output were observed in the period. These fluctuations caused problems in Kazakh consumers' energy supply. Taking into account these problems, KEGOC earlier repeatedly expressed intentions to abandon the Central Asia United Energy System.
Uzbekistan promised to pay Kazakhstan roughly $15 million by March for non-contractual electricity consumption from the Central Asia United Energy in 2011. However, some non-contractual electricity flows from Uzbekistan was observed in 2012, too, he said. Thus, the issue of Kazakhstan's abandonment of the Central Asia United Energy System is not closed. |
