The European Union is interested in cooperation with Tbilisi to create a unified power grid of Georgia, Turkey and Bulgaria, European Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger told Georgian television companies in Davos on Friday.

He said energy sector is "one of the key issues" of the EU cooperation with Georgia.
"Georgia is a major transit country in the region, and therefore, the EU wants to cooperate with Tbilisi to create a unified power grid of Georgia, Turkey and Bulgaria, which will be very profitable for all countries," Ottinger said.

Georgia is already building a transmission line, which will allow the country to increase electricity supply to Turkey. This 400- kilowatt transmission line is supposed to be commissioned this summer.
