Monday, 23 January 2012ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Monday issues the world's first triple limb transplant in Turkey, the maintenance efforts in Bosphorus Bridge, and the Armenian bill which will be voted in French Senate.
All newspapers wrote Prof. Omer Ozkan from Turkey's Akdeniz University who was recorded in history of medicine by performing the world's first triple limb transplant. Ahmet Kaya's face, arms and legs were transplanted to two patients, Ugur Acar and Atilla Kavdir. Doctors said that the condition of Ugur Acar, who received a full face transplant, was good. Meanwhile, Kavdir's one leg was removed after the operation due to tissue incompatibility. Foreign newspapers Washington Post, Guardian and Daily Telegraph wrote about the Turkish doctor, while Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Prof. Ozkan and his team.
Another topic in the newspapers is Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim's statement about the maintenance of Bosphorus Bridge. Yildirim said that on the 40th year of its construction, Bosphorus Bridge would be under maintenance for 8-9 months. He added that the bridge would not be closed during maintenance efforts. However, there can be interruptions in the traffic, he noted.
Some of the newspapers wrote that French Senate will vote a bill which criminalizes the denial of Armenian allegations regarding 1915 incidents during Ottoman period. If French Senate adopts the bill, Turkish-French relations will be harmed significantly. Despite all reactions from Turkey, France will vote the bill which foresees imprisonment and fine for people who say "there is no Armenian genocide". If French Senate adopts the bill, Turkey will announce the sanctions it will impose on France. |
