Friday, 20 January 2012Pakistan's foreign minister has said that ties with the United States remain on hold following a NATO cross-border air strike.
Hina Rabbani Khar said that since the "reevaluation process is not complete, we cannot start the reengagement" with Washington.
Khar however said the long alliance with America was vital for the two countries.
The November 26 NATO attack on the border with Afghanistan, which killed 24 Pakistani soldiers, exacerbated a crisis in relations which erupted after U.S. Special Forces killed Osama bin Laden on Pakistani soil in May last year.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani meanwhile appeared before the Supreme Court in Islamabad on January 19 to face contempt of court proceedings that could lead to his removal from office.
The hearing came as Gilani's government is facing pressure from the military over disclosures about a memo seeking help from the United States in thwarting a possible military coup. |
