Wednesday, 18 January 2012WASHINGTON (A.A) - Turkish ambassador in Washington has severely criticized Texas governor's statements about Turkey, as "unacceptable baseless accusations."
"It is impossible for us to tolerate such statements by the governor of the largest U.S. state. Our fundamental expectation is that Turkey should not be made a chip for the U.S. domestic politics and mere election calculations," Namik Tan told the Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.
Tan said Rick Perry's remarks about the Turkish leadership and its NATO membership reflected how shallow the governor's experience and insight into global and regional issues.
"I would like to remind the governor that the Turkey's economic and commercial relations with the U.S. offered thousands of jobs in the State of Texas, which is the biggest trade partner for Turkey in the United States," Tan said.
U.S. State Department Spokesperson Mark Toner said in a daily press briefing that the U.S. government did not agreed with Perry's statements, saying Turkey was strong and loyal ally of the United States as part of NATO as well as in our bilateral relations," Toner said. |
